In my own courses, I’ve found discussions and instructor videos helpful. Even in our asynchronous courses, I’ve found discussions worthwhile for connecting students (even if current students are reflecting upon the posts of past students). I’ve also included videos of me, welcoming students or introducing material, to add a personable presence.
